Penalties for using an illegal construction contract in Mississippi:
  • Omission of the Buyer's Right to Cancel notice in a home solicitation sale contract gives an owner the right to cancel the contract even years after completion. Mississippi Code Annotated § 75-66-5(2).
  • Contracting for work outside the limits of a Certificate of Responsibility requires an appearance before the State Board of Contractors and can result in suspension. Code of Mississippi Rules, 50-023-001(5)
  • A contract for commercial construction is void under Mississippi Code Annotated § 31-3-15 if the contractor does not have the required Certificate of Responsibility.

  • Omission of insulation disclosures required by 16 Code of Federal Regulation § 460 can result in an $11,000 fine.
